Franz Wagner Set to Make His Comeback for the Magic!
ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando Magic are gearing up for a significant boost as forward Franz Wagner is expected to rejoin the lineup on Monday night for their matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks. This game will mark his first appearance at Kia Center since December 5, and fans are eager to see him back on the court.
Key Details to Note:
- Return of Wagner: After being sidelined, Franz Wagner is ready to contribute to the Magic in their game against the Bucks.
- Injury Background: Wagner suffered a high left ankle sprain on December 7 during a game against the New York Knicks, which led him to miss 16 games in late December and early January.
- Brief Return: Although he returned to action on January 15 in Berlin and again on January 18 in London, he unfortunately aggravated his injury, causing him to sit out again.
- Minutes Restriction: In a press conference before the game, Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley emphasized that Wagner will face a "very strict" minutes restriction during his return, although he did not disclose the specific duration expected.
"When he’s healthy, he’s truly an All-Star," remarked guard Jalen Suggs. "Getting him back is monumental for us. His presence on offense and defensive capabilities make a significant impact. It's crucial for our team mentally to have everyone together again, allowing us to gradually rebuild our chemistry and rhythm. I'm thrilled to welcome him back, and I know he’s been eager to get back into action."
This game against the Bucks is just the first of two home encounters, with the teams set to clash again on Wednesday. Notably, the Bucks will be without their All-Star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is currently dealing with a right calf strain.
Additionally, this matchup will see the return of guard Gary Harris, who played for the Magic over the past four seasons after being acquired from the Denver Nuggets, but has now signed with Milwaukee in the offseason.
In a recent move, the Bucks added free-agent guard Cam Thomas, who was recently released by the Brooklyn Nets after spending his entire career there. Drafted out of LSU as the 27th overall pick in the 2021 draft, Thomas averaged 15.6 points, 3.1 assists, 1.8 rebounds, and around 24.3 minutes per game in 24 appearances this season. Although he faced a left hamstring strain that sidelined him for about seven weeks, he returned to play on December 27. However, Thomas is currently experiencing a dip in shooting efficiency, with a career-low average of 39.9% overall and 32.5% from beyond the arc this season. Over his career, he has maintained averages of 43.5% shooting and 34.3% from three-point range across 239 games, including 88 starts.
On the other hand, the Magic recently made a strategic signing, bringing in free-agent guard Jevon Carter, who had been released by the Chicago Bulls. Carter has participated in 23 games this season, averaging 5.4 points and 1.1 rebounds in approximately 11.1 minutes per game.
With the addition of Carter, the Magic's roster now meets the NBA's minimum requirement of 14 players, which had dipped to 13 following last week’s trade of guard Tyus Jones to the Charlotte Hornets.
This exciting turn of events raises many questions: How will Wagner's return influence the team's dynamics moving forward? Will the Magic harness this opportunity to regain momentum in their season? Join the conversation below and share your thoughts!
