Metal Gear Solid 4 PS5: Assassin's Creed Easter Egg & No Online Multiplayer (2026)

Bold claim first: Metal Gear Solid 4’s PS5 port brings intriguing crossovers but leaves some online features behind, and that tension is part of what makes this update worth discussing.

The PS5 port of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots raises several questions about how its distinctive content translates to modern hardware. In addition to referencing PS3-era specifics and naming Apple’s iPod, the update confirms crossover content that lets Old Snake costume up as Altair from the original Assassin’s Creed. This ties into a broader collaboration arc following Konami’s deal with Ubisoft, which, among other things, brings Solid Snake into Rainbow Six: Siege’s seasonal update.

A recent interview with Game Spark revealed that the collaboration will extend into Master Collection Vol. 2, with Yuji Korekado confirming that “collaborative elements” from both Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker will be included. This promises a cohesive blend of elements from two classic entries within the Master Collection’s second installment.

In terms of in-game rewards from the PS3 era, players could unlock the Altair-inspired costume by earning the Assassin emblem after meeting several conditions: completing the game with over 50 knife kills, more than 50 close-quarters combat holds, and triggering the alert phase fewer than 25 times. These tasks highlight the game’s wry, reward-driven approach to fan-service and experimentation.

However, not all features will carry over. The Metal Gear Online component from Guns of the Patriots will not return in the PS5 version, which means players will have access to the main campaign plus Peace Walker’s co-op and online versus modes, but the standalone online mode from the original online component won’t be part of this package.

Release timing and availability add another layer of interest: Volume 2 of the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection is scheduled to arrive on PS5 on August 26, 2026. With that in mind, fans can revisit the two stealth classics over the summer and assess how the collection holds up in today’s gaming landscape.

So, will you revisit Metal Gear Solid 4 and Peace Walker this summer, or wait to see how the Master Collection Vol. 2 content lands on your platform? Share your thoughts in the comments: do crossovers enhance classic titles, or do they risk crowding the core experience?
